QLD Regional Payroll Tax Discount to be Extended

    10th March 2023

Treasurer Cameron Dick confirmed on 9 March 2023 that QLD’s regional employer payroll tax discount would be extended beyond its currently legislated end date of 30 June 2023. Details of that extension are not yet available.

PVW Partners originally advocated for the introduction of this discount back in 2019 with recent efforts focussed on seeing it made a permanent feature of the payroll tax system or, failing that, extended.

In a recent Channel 7 News interview with PVW Partners Managing Partner, Carl Valentine and Townsville Chamber of Commerce President, Chris Rockemer, discussed the benefits to thousands of businesses impacted by this decision.

This announcement is a great outcome for regional business confidence, but more needs to be done to reform all payroll tax systems in Australia. Carl Valentine said “All regional businesses are facing higher costs of doing business so avoiding what would have been a 27% increase payroll tax from July 2023 will be of immense benefit to all regional business”.

PVW Partners will continue to advocate for payroll tax reform to promote the development of regional Queensland and growth in sustainable regional communities.

With our purpose of Regional Australians Growing Regional Australia, we believe government policy should be about enabling small to medium enterprise to succeed; thereby allowing them to employ more people, put more resourcing back into local communities and ensure our regional economies are the engine room which support the prosperity of the State economy.
