PAYROLL TAX RELIEF ON JOBKEEPER PAYMENTS WELCOMED BY NORTH QUEENSLAND BUSINESS COMMUNITY

    8th May 2020

Leading North Queensland accounting and advisory firm PVW Partners has welcomed the Queensland Government’s decision to exempt Payroll Tax on JobKeeper payments.

Managing Partner Carl Valentine said the decision had come after much lobbying from the North Queensland business community.

“We’re extremely pleased to see the Queensland Government has taken our feedback on board and announced this important measure that will go a long way to support businesses that are already doing it extremely tough,” Mr Valentine said.

“PVW Partners wrote to Treasurer Jackie Trad in April calling for urgent clarity over this issue, asking for Queensland to follow the lead from other jurisdictions including Western Australia and South Australia, who announced Payroll Tax relief on JobKeeper payments in early April.

“This announcement will go a long way to easing the burden for both businesses and employees to ensure that once we come out the other side of COVID-19, as many Queenslanders as possible remain in employment, businesses can re-open their doors and collectively, continue to play their role in our State economy.”

PVW Partners is extremely supportive of the Queensland Government’s Payroll Tax Relief Package announced in 2019, along with the recent $4B Economic Relief Package which allowed a waiver and deferral of Payroll Tax for those businesses impacted by COVID-19.

The exemption of Payroll Tax on JobKeeper payments will allow regionally based Queensland businesses to make an even stronger contribution to the national economy, particularly as our nation faces unprecedented challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
